Patients often ask us what is the right procedure for them. We offer three procedures here at the Videoscopic Institute of Atlanta. Vertical Banded Gastroplasty, Laparoscopic Adjustable Band or Roux en-Y Gastric Bypass. All of these are performed laparoscopically. We look at a number of factors in helping patients to choose the right procedure for themselves. One is what do they weigh. In general, patients do better with a Lap-Band, better around the 100 pounds overweight, they do not eat sweets and are going to be absolutely compliant or follow the rules as far as no snacking and exercise. The Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is a better operation for people that are heavier, that weigh more and particularly if they have certain medical conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol, because these respond remarkably well to the operation.
