Hospital stay for either the Vertical Banded Gastroplasty or the Laparoscopic Adjustable Band is a 23-hour or overnight stay. We do like our patients to stay overnight so that we can be assured that they are drinking liquids and taking their medications by mouth before they go home. Hospital stay for the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is typically two nights in the hospital. Of course it is a little more involved. The first day, the patients are on night shifts are walking around. The next day we begin them on liquids to make sure that they can tolerate that and their medications by mouth and they go home after the second night if they are tolerating that.
