NOW PLAYING: Recovery Period

When patients are discharged from the hospital, they are able to walk, go up and down steps, drive the car as soon as they feel up to it. Most patients are back to full activity in about one week doing normal duties, but no heavy lifting for three weeks. After three weeks there are no instructions. We encourage our patients to be active after the surgery. We want them up walking and moving around. After three weeks, there are no restrictions on their activities and we encourage them to get involved in an exercise program with some weight lifting in order to reduce the looseness of the skin and to improve muscle.
