Weight loss expectations for either the Vertical Banded Gastroplasty or the Laparoscopic Adjustable Band are similar. The patients can expect about 50% of their excess weight to be lost and about 50% will succeed long term. The reasons patients do not have a better success rate with a Vertical Banded Gastroplasty or Laparoscopic Adjustable Band is that they either snack between meals, eat sweets or they do not exercise. The patients that follow those guidelines will succeed.
