With the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the patients overall can expect to lose approximately 80% of their excess weight and about 90% of patients will keep their weight loss over time. Weight loss expectations can vary depending on what weight patients start at. Patients that weigh 400 to 500 pounds will lose a greater amount of weight. However, the percentage may not be as great as what we had talked about earlier. It is extremely important again that patients not snack between meals and be active physically.
