Dianna had the RNY surgery and has lost 170 pounds
In January of 2004, I selected Dr. Champion as my surgeon for Roux-En-Y. I was 300 pounds the day of surgery and I now have lost 170 pounds and kept it off for four years. Dr. Champion came highly recommended to me. I worked in the health care profession for about seven years prior to my surgery and he came very highly recommended from surgeons here in the area. I also interviewed about four surgeons that do gastric bypass surgeries and I was very impressed with Dr. Champion's preop care, his screening methodology as well as his postop support and now even four years out I still call their office if I have problems. I attend support groups. There are also exercise programs and a dietitian here to continue helping me throughout the weight loss and the weight maintenance mode. Living as an obese person, I have to share what is probably the most difficult thing I have ever had. As an obese person, I had to deal with medical problems. I had high cholesterol, I had borderline diabetes. I had something called a pseudotumor, which I will not even go into what that is but it was all weight related and the list goes on and on. I was on 11 medications a day just to function and I was in my 30s. When I had this surgery on January 15, 2004, the day I will always remember, the day after surgery, the medications, I could start weaning off the medications. I became more fit. I felt great and ever since that time I have been amazed at what an excellent tool this is. But, it is important to note that again Dr. Champion says this is a tool to help in weight loss. It is not the end of. In other words, as a patient you have to stick to the golden rules. You have to follow the instructions. If you don’t you will gain weight back. So, as a postop patient, I exercise four to five times a week, I follow the diet. If I ever have a day that I slip up and may be do not eat as well as I should, I get right back on track the next day. So, again the surgery was a tool for me that helped me get my life back on track and with Dr. Champion's help and my own will power, so to speak, I am able to maintain the weight loss.
